Project: Tool Support for Learning Programming Style
Supervisor(s): Rachel Cardell-Oliver
Project status: expects to complete end of semester 2, 2009

Programming style is not only about typographic style of the code, it also include control structure style which can affect the performance of the program. It affects the maintainability and quality of the software. However, programming style varies between different programmers, which make software difficult to maintain. New programming students usually forget about the importance of programming style as it only takes a small part in programming units. To improve their learning and understanding in programming style, we examine different automatic style checking tools and demonstrate the use of these tools in teaching new programming students. We also examine the effect of those tools have on the quality of students' code.
