Project: GPU-Accelerated Algorithms for Gravitational Wave Detection
Supervisor(s): Amitava Datta, David Blair (Physics) and Linqing Wen (Physics)
Project status: complete semester 2, 2008

Gravitational wave data is a time domain record of the whole sky with time resolution of 100 micro seconds. It easily adds up to several terabytes of data. It is crucial for the detection and localisation algorithms to achieve real-time performance to enable follow-up observation with conventional telescopes on the source direction. The aim of this project is to investigate the feasibility of using Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for the detection and localisation algorithms and improve their performance.
