Project: Frequency Scheduling for Cognitive Radio Using a Genetic Algorithm
Supervisor(s): Amitava Datta and Luigi Barone
Project status: withdrawn 26/07/08

Cognitive Radio technology presents a possible method of utilising the congested RF spectrum more efficiently. As the radio components are implemented in software, rather than hardware, it is possible for the radio to transmit and receive on any frequency, with only a change in software configuration required.
A cognitive radio should also therefore be able to dynamically adapt according to the current conditions of the RF environment, avoiding much of the interference that is present in unlicenced frequency bands and presenting the possibilty of using licenced bands without interfering with the licence holder's transmission.
This project aims to implement a genetic algorithm for the purpose of scheduling the use of the RF spectrum according to the current RF environment.
