The project is to design a system called MSPSS (Music Signal Processing and Search Software) which can accurately and efficiently sort and summarise music based on the audio signal of the raw musical data itself.
A signal processor will process the signal looking for key attributes in the music such as tonality, beat variation, intensity, spectral density, etc.
For each song a template file will be created which will store this information.
A file management system will allow the user to sort and categorise the songs based on musical content.
The user will also have the ability to search for songs or similar songs by entering in user-understandable search criteria such as the speed of the song, the aggression, mood and texture.
The project will endeavour to try and automate the process of music classification as well as provide a more accurate description of the music itself.
