Project: An Investigation of Current Techniques in Animating Real-Time Fire and Explosions
Supervisor(s): Karen Haines
Project status: complete semester 2, 2005

The aim of this project is to investigate the current methods and techniques used to animate real-time fire and explosions. My interest in undertaking this project is to find out why special effects such as fire and explosions are not realistic enough. To date, most approaches used in creating these digital effects are by using single techniques. This project will investigate whether realism in these special effects can be improved by combining two or more of the current techniques and methodologies. I will be creating a simulation environment to recreate fire and explosions by implementing various techniques and testing the special effects under many user-defined conditions.
