Postgraduate Scholarship Information

Postgraduate scholarship applications will be called for by the University toward the end of September. It is suggested that you apply for scholarships, even if you do not intend continuing into postgraduate studies. It is not unusual for students to change their minds after the results are published (by which time it is too late to apply). If you are offered a scholarship, you are under no obligation to accept it.

For full information about the availability of scholarships and the conditions for application, you should consult the Scholarships Office in Student Administration. The Registrar's Circular and the Scholarship Register at the Guild Education Office provide details of a wide range of scholarships as they become available. Of course, your supervisor will be willing to discuss possible areas of postgraduate research and offer their opinion of your suitability for further study.

There are a number of different types of postgraduate awards:

  • Australian Postgraduate Awards - for study at any Australian University.
  • University of W.A. Research Scholarships - for study at this University.
  • Scholarships for overseas study.
  • Scholarships and grants provided by outside funding bodies provided (typically) for specialised projects.

The type of scholarship you apply for depends on where you wish to carry out your study. The conditions and closing dates of individual scholarships differ greatly. You should consider, however, that moving to another campus involves contacting the other institution and arranging a project before applying for the funding. You need to start this well in advance.

More information is available from the UWA Postgraduate Research and Scholarships Office.
